As we begin our spring semester, I want to welcome our new students. I want to congratulate you and your family on making this very important decision.

Over the next few weeks I want to highlight some of the important benefits of becoming a martial artist. This week I want to talk about the importance of being more fit and becoming more focused. As our nation's obesity problem becomes increasingly more alarming, martial arts gives our kids the opportunity to stay fit. Although youth sports are great, keep in mind not every child is an athlete and sometimes the peer pressure to compete can be intimidating. Martial arts is based on the individual and our program is designed to address each student's emotional and physical needs. Focus means ....To be clear. At N.Y.G.K.A. we believe that each student will become clear about themselves. We believe that being the best is not as important as being your best. We believe that effort develops confidence and confidence develops success in life. We believe that our five week testing track encourages each student to focus on their next short term goal. Short term goals lead to medium term goals which lead to the long term goal of black belt. The importance of being fit and focused are just two of the many benefits of taking and studying the martial arts. Karate training is training for life

See you in class

Respectfully Shihan Jim
